Catesby Property Group has recently gained Outline Planning Consent (on appeal) for a mixed recreation and residential development in the market town of Holsworthy (in the District of Torridge).

The Old Showground on the northern edge of the town is a 15 acre site which lies immediately adjacent to Stanhope Park on high ground overlooking the open countryside. It is within walking distance of the town square and is close to potential jobs on the town’s Dobles Lane industrial estate. The eastern portion of the Old Showground has recently received detailed consent for 46 new homes.

Catesby’s scheme for the western portion of the Old Showground includes up to 160 new homes (of which 40% would specifically be affordable housing), together with a brand new full sized playing field, new changing rooms, a refurbished cricket pavilion and a new skateboard park. A further financial contribution will be made to providing new play facilities in Stanhope Park and helping the local schools.

The new development will involve improvements and traffic calming measures to Trewyn Road which should make the road safer for residents, motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. There is also a Travel Plan for the site to encourage people to walk, cycle and use public transport rather than necessarily drive private cars, to help protect the environment.
